The Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, UK is owned by the renowned chef, Heston Blumenthal, who is famous for his whacky culinary creations. The celebrated restaurant started out like many other great restaurants in Britain, serving fresh pasta and fish at reasonable prices to satisfy foodies looking for a great dining option. Today, however, it will cost you around £250 (around $300 US) per head to enjoy a unique eating experience that will leave you taste buds tingling.

Constant Renovation and Innovation

Constant Renovation and Innovation

The Fat Duck restaurant has recently reopened after having a 2.5 million renovation whilst the chef himself travelled to Australia to cook for 6 months whilst the work was completed. The restaurant now boasts a state of the art kitchen, high tech toilets from Japan with bathroom walls made of charcoaled oak to absorb any lingering smells and you will sit on handstitched leather chairs. Before you have even tasted your first mouthful you know you are dining in a luxury setting.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside…

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside...

It is not only the décor that has been revamped but the food also. Blumenthal has a brand new theme for his diners. You will be transported to the chef’s perfect day on a family trip to the seaside. You will not be handed just any would menu but instead be given a map with a magnify glass to read the culinary delights in scripted on it. There is a light that hangs above your table that changes in shade to distinguish the changing time of day and the waiters are more like actors delivering imaginative lines and carrying fanciful props.

The food does not disappoint either and reminds you just who exactly had conjured up such creations. It ranges from beetroot that dissolves on the tip of your tongue, to a builder’s cup of hot and cold tea allowing your senses to change between the two temperatures. Ice creams are disguised also; crab ice cream from “When we went rock pooling,” and artichoke ice-cream. The show stopper comes in the form of a floating merengue called ‘Counting Sheep.’ The meringue itself sits on a pillow that floats 6 inches above the table all thanks to some clever magnets.

If you have the money and 4 hours to enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner the next time you are visiting the UK, and you’re lucky enough to get a space at the table, then this Is a dining adventure like no other.
