Los Cabos, well known for its variety of seafood dishes gathered from the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, is also famous in Mexico for its organic produce and culinary tourism. Los Cabos is renowned for its first class cuisine and its success stems from the use of the excellent local fruits and vegetables in the dishes. Huerta Los Tamarindos is one of the organic suppliers helping to keep Los Cabos at the top of the culinary tourism league.
Huerta Los Tamarindos
Inland from the Sea of Cortez adjacent to the San Jose Estuary in Los Cabos is the 17-acre organic farm of Huerta Los Tamarindos. Having obtained the coveted organic certification from both the Primus Labs and the United States Department of Agriculture, the farm has since 2003 been dedicated to cultivating organic produce to supply many of the top restaurants in Los Cabos. The farm produces numerous fresh products including a variety of green vegetables and herbs, eggplant, leeks, onions, tomatoes, beets and carrots.
The art of fresh organic produce
Any person trying to grow strawberries or tomatoes in their own gardens or on their terrace will understand how difficult organic agriculture can be. Great care has been taken to landscape and rotate harvests at the Huerta Los Tamarindos. This helps to protect the soil quality and maximize production of their delectable produce. Growing healthy plants without using any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers is the hardest to achieve.
Organic Culinary Tourism in Los Cabos
Open to visitors to Los Cabos, Huerta Tamarindos is a fully functioning farm allowing everyone access to see how the organic product is grown and produced. Accompanied by a guide you can take a 50 minute walking tour of the farm or enjoy a 4-hour cooking class which includes your own recipe book.
A Cooking Class with a difference
Taking part in the cooking class will enable you to use the fresh organic vegetables, fruits and herbs that you can obtain directly from the farm. You will be able to prepare traditional Mexican or Mediterranean dishes and be directed by a top chef to produce a scintillating four-course meal. The chef will be on hand to guide you through all the stages and will be able to give you advice and answer any culinary questions. Once you have produced your perfect meal, there will be ample time to taste your creation along with a fine wine.
Dining at Tamarindos Restaurant
